Psychsoulology- By Dr. Alfred L. Brooks

September 10, 2009 by Kristopher Govea

Dr. Brooks is a practitioner of the Science of Psychsoulology. ‘The Science of Psychsoulology is rooted in Interpersonal & Intrapersonal Analysis and Conflict Resolution. Psychsoulology hold that every human being is a unique personality that continuously evolves as a result of experienced perception. At the time of its creation the soul of man (male and female) is pure and clean, devoid of all faculties (traits), whether good or evil. During the evolution (i.e., natural growth) humans develops faculties which are directly related to the way he/she thinks, lives, and acts. The speech and actions of a human, when repeated over a long period of time, produce a lasting effect on the soul which is perceived as the intellectual faculty. This faculty penetrates the soul and becomes used to these faculties, establishes a union with them, i.e.,  psychsoul is developed, and determines the human being direction in accordance with their dictates. Every human being has a unique perception of experiences and result into a unique personality. It follows that a group of people could enjoy or suffer the same experiences while simultaneously undergoing a unique experience based upon the unique perception of that experience. All human beings perception of experiences naturally stimulates and leaves lasting and evolving imprints on the intellect, emotions, imagination and soul. Unique human perceptions create unique thoughts, unique thoughts create unique ideas and unique ideas crate unique mannerism of which create and evolve a unique personality. It follows that in order to locate and sanitize individual personality, each person must undergo in-depth Psychsoulology (i.e., in-depth introspection/Psychsoulanalysis), locate, resolve and transcend all unresolved emotional experiences, establish emotional intelligence (Soulful Intelligence) which result into a more prosocial perception, sanitize and remodeled ideology.

Human-Psychsoulbody can only be evaluated by individual expressions through our faculties. Isolated episodes of inappropriate behavior does not indicate a Psychsoul disease; rather, isolated responses to a particular circumstance or an emotional acting out as a result of a triggered suppression of an unresolved emotional experience.

The Science of Psychsoulology holds that any learned behavior traits can be unlearned and replaced by a more natural thought process. Psychsoulology uses a combination of biblio & Writing ‘Therapies, fasting, dietary changes, abstaining from sexually and violent suggestive subliminal images deriving from television and musical devices, inter alia, physical exercises to assist in the process of conducting Subjective and Objective Behavioral Research, Unintelligent Extrovertism and subsequently transmutating into an Emotional Intelligent Introvert, Enduring Psychsoulbodily Discipline and eventual Holistic Health. PSYCHSOULOLOGY PREVENTATIVE RELAPSE  COMPONENTS

Psychsoulolgy involves daily introspection, focusing on the thought process and things that will propel towards success as on part of the perpetual battles to sustain Holistic Health (optimistic Sociospirituality). Another part is thinking about the things that will prevent falling back into the old unhealthy/antisocial behaviors (Interpersonal Conflict is that between or among people. Intrapersonal Conflict is the suffering individuals undergo when they have two conflicting desires that they are unable to resolve.

Psychsoulology was designed to resolve Inter & Intrapersonal conflicts). Psychsoulology hold that past experiences cannot be changed regardless of our use of the powers of the mind. The person whom attempts to live in the past cannot but unwittingly divest, diverts and disarm his/her own intellectual powers in a sphere of magical thinking. Likewise, attempting to live in an era that has not arrived would likely be taxing the mind with phantom worries. It follows that the past is very important and necessary to understand and cope with here and now. In other words, the past experiences were the school of hard knocks, providing the wisdom of Psychsoul Evolution of which allows us to more productively deal with present day feelings, attitudes, conflicts and challenges.

The aforedescribed Principles of Psychsoulology are further supported by: On Becoming A person, and Born To win, by Muriel James and Dorothy Jangeward; and Alcohol Anonymous Serenity Prayer: Lord, grant me the
serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
Dr. Brooks earned academic Degrees in Holistic Health & Psychsoulology and Religious Science (Interpersonal & Intrapersonal Conflict Resolutions).
PSUEDO; PSYCHOLOGY

The science used by the Board of Parole Hearing (BPH), California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), and most Western psychological schools of thought concerning potential parolees and any other persons who are wards of the state, is flawed and defective due to its fixed presuppositions in regards to personalities, experiences, and environments, as well as its hypocritical evaluation process. This very structuring is implemented to support a political agenda that has comprised the foundation of this country’s very existence. Serious consideration cannot be given to the evaluation when determining the potential parole of an inmate due to the lack of justice and moral fortitude. Justice, as with the many other state sponsored institutions, is subservient to an agenda that supersedes human life.

The case of Dr. Alfred Lawrence Brooks must take into account his psychological stability. To protect the public from potential calamities, it must be concluded that Dr. Brooks is mentally fit to reintegrate back into society. This understanding is dependent on an honest and fair assessment to which the state does not possess. The errors in the already existing state psychology are numerous, yet, the two most critical are its absolute presuppositions and dual nature pertaining to justice.

State psychology presupposes that all we see, know, and understand is absolute. It believes that we have innate characteristics that cannot be changed, and that any isolated deed of an individual is the sole indicator regarding his/her general behavior. This specifically means that, according to this train of thought, the person who murders is a murderer, the person who steals is a thief, and one who tells a lie is a liar. This conclusion is reached without ever considering the role external factors play.

With this absolute theory there needs to exist an absolute standard. Morality, in this sense, is applied dogmatically. Regardless of social class, economic status, or racial background all must abide by the same set of standards. This theory believes that these three factors are irrelevant in assessing the subjects behavior or character.

There is also the notion within this theory that all people, places, things, and experiences are abstract and in no way interrelated. This is contradictory because, while it implies that all must bear the burden of their own transgressions, Western philosophy propagates that all humans are born evil, hence, in need of a savior. This leads us to the ideal standard of morality.

Western society has sought its savior in the image of the white male. Capitalism, imperialism, militarization, religion, etc. are all ways in which the European male expresses his own self perceived “superiority” complex. He believes that because he is Christian and white, he is exempt from doing or being accused of being evil or wrong. This allows people of   descent the freedom to “civilize” and “Christianize” the world by any means necessary. The collateral damage suffered by nonwhites must be accepted as divinely ordained. Resistance, no matter how justified it may seem against European
colonization or imperialism (whether via physical, mental, or spiritual oppression) is really resistance against their version of “god”.

This resistance, in the form of so called “criminal” activities, is punished with penal institutions as prisons. It is here that punishment is administered as a means of vengeance. Correction is the total break down of the human mind into one that is subservient to the state. Forgiveness or mercy is obtained only through submission to the savior i.e. white male, and confessing ones own evil nature (Read: AA/NA)

This leads to a double standard in determining justice. This justice we
speak of is established or denied long before one sees a courtroom or parole
board. Inequality along social, political, economic, and racial lines will
cause the disadvantaged to seek out criminal activities for survival purposes. This means that the law is not to serve and protect the people, but to serve and protect “economic interests” from the people. The poor are targeted for institutionalization via a socio-economically biased law.

Institution after institution in capitalist America is erected to oppress
and exploit the poor. White middle class America cannot understand the open hostility between the state& the oppressed masses domestically and internationally. The establishment of a militarized police state and a billion dollar prison industrial complex is proof that the state exists as a barrier between the haves and the have nots.

The psychological evaluation administered to Dr. Brooks on 8-10-O9 by James McNairn, Psy. D., CA LIC# PSY-17905 and Steven Walker, Ph.D., CA LIC# PSY-11894 of BPH is not an accurate assessment. Dr. Brooks was convicted of second degree murder twenty-one years ago and has survived the harshest of prison environments created by the state. Having to be subjected to psychological evaluation for one murder
committed twenty-one years ago while soldiers returning from war after having committed mass murder on behalf of the U.S.A., are freely released into society is a blatant act of racism, classism, and American exception-alism. It demonstrates that the “collateral damage” of innocent Iraqi, Afghani, i.e. people of color are not equal to the life of one American.

Dr. Brooks’ alleged anti-social personality is due to the fact that he
refuses to accept himself as absolutely inferior. He will not submit to the
belief and is, therefore, willing to accept the title on the grounds that
he is anti- any society that propagates against change. Dr. Brooks is the
living example that one can transmutate physically, mentally, and spiritually.

Dr. Brooks also refuses to “wallow in his own self-pity” for a mistake
he made twenty-one years ago. He has forgiven himself and has dedicated his life to furthering human progress. This, again, speaks of a double standard and reeks of racism. History, and present day society, demonstrates that Caucasian-Americans have “moved on” after committing countless “mistakes” in relation to slavery, genocide, mass rapes, torture, segregation, Jim Crow, lynching, etc., etc.

Dr. Brooks’ philosophy is in tune with life when he views his prior actions and behavior as being interconnected with his environment, experiences, and relationships. He understands and has insight into the “why” factor in his life crime. He can recognize signs of future calamities and has erected protective barriers against recidivism and/or relapse. He accepts personal responsibility and has changed the necessary problem areas in his life. With or without parole, Dr. Brooks will fulfill his socio-spiritual obligations to humanity by promoting mental, physical, and spiritual liberation.

The punitive institution known as the Department of Corrections is an instrument of the state used to maintain political, economic, and social sovereignty for the ruling elite. It is a repressive institution that quells the majority of the population’s natural inclination to control its own destiny. It is the final stage (save for death, which is also a convenient weapon of choice) in what it calls the “corrective process.” This process raises an interesting quandary in the sense that it questions for whom and for what purposes the individual is “corrected”.

Publicly we are told that anti-social deviants are to be “corrected” and “rehabilitated” in order to function better in greater society. This, however, is a fallacy, because the “correction” administered is aimed at supplanting the natural inclination towards freedom. For those who fail to understand that the sole purpose of the state is complete control, there are these institutions known as prison.

Within the confines of prison there exists a paradigm for deterring freedom and independence while demanding subjugation and control. The slow, debilitating methodology is designed to corrode the human spirit and will. The intended end result is a subhuman, robot-type who knows only to serve his/her master. This has been the fate of many once strong minded brothers and sisters who have succumbed to the torture and torment of mental, physical, and spiritual abuse. These are the forgotten, lost souls who have lost their spiritual vision. They are the ones who have eyes but cannot see and ears but cannot hear. Prison is the rest home for the walking dead.

In spite of these horrendous conditions there also exists a small number of in individuals who not only remain unaffected but have actually become stronger. These individuals understand themselves, their environment, and most importantly, who their true enemies are. These are the ones who have become an enigma to evil and evil ideologies. They have used their time in the belly of the beast to develop a fervor that seeks to eradicate injustice and unrighteousness. These are the political prisoners. They understand the relationship between crime and punishment and capitalist America. They have transformed themselves from lowly street thugs to fully conscious and aware freedom fighters. Despite undergoing a major character transformation they continue to suffer punitively because they have eyes and can see and ears and can hear. They have refused to bow in submission and, therefore, their suffering continues.

In spite of the aforedescribed conditions, the past twenty-one years have proven that Rev. Dr. Alfred Lawrence Brooks is of the small, minority latter group. The conviction, incarceration, and unjust parole denials suffered by Dr. Brooks have not shaken his unbreakable spirit and undying will for freedom.

Dr. Brooks has walked the path set before him by other noble brothers and sisters who suffered under the corporate behemoth known as the “prison industrial complex”. He has transformed himself into a Holistic Educator dedicated to serving and aiding humanity break free from socio-spiritual oppression. A freedom fighter that stands up for righteousness and challenges the system’s policies concerning medical, civil, and judicial injustices. His name evokes praise and respect throughout Ca1ifornia’s prisons as Dr. Brooks has been a consistent example of morality and ethical conduct.

Dr. Brooks has been incarcerated for the past twenty-one years after a lover’s quarrel resulted in the loss of his late wife. From the moment the crime scene was investigated it was apparent that despite overwhelming evidence demonstrating that this was the typical crime of passion, Dr. Brooks would not be given a fair opportunity at justice.

There were many factors that had the wheels of injustice rolling from the onset. The crime was committed in Lake Tahoe, a predominantly affluent white city. The victim herself was white, and on top of all that, had close family ties to the El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office. In fact, Dr. Brooks’ prosecuting deputy D.A. knew Dr. Brooks and the victim personally. It was this same D.A. who, prior to this crime, had accused Dr. Brooks of having an illicit affair with his wife! The very feet that a Black man in America is unlikely to receive justice from this “injustice” system is even more reason to understand how improbable it was for Dr. Brooks.

Facing these insurmountable odds Dr. Brooks was literally forced by the judge and his own lawyer to plead guilty to second degrees murder giving him a sentence of 15 years to life with half time. He was told by the D.A.’s office that with good time credit he would be paroled in 7 to 8 years. However, this sentence was changed years later without his knowledge or consent to the normal 15 to life. Even still, the law clearly states that the maximum number of years for a 15 to life sentence on a second degree murder is twenty-one years.

During the past twenty-one years, Dr. Brooks has utilized his time to conduct thorough introspective analysis. Although having been subjected to some of the harshest prison environments in the nation, Br. Brooks has still found time to transform his character into one that is more conscious socially, politically, and spiritually. He has been a staunch prison activist who has defended the rights and respect of prisoners in his immediate environment as well as nationwide. Along with these attributes Dr. Brooks has met each and every requirement for parole, including remaining disciplinary free for the pest eleven years.

Dr. Brooks, who is an ordained minister, has compiled his own methodology he used to transform his own life into a new school of psych- soul therapy called: “Psychsoulology”. This naturopathic science utilizes the scriptures of Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, etc. as well as other sacred writings to comprise a mind, body, and soul healing process. Dr. Brooks has recently published his first book “New Age Holistic Health” and has an astounding ten more volumes to follow. He has also founded “The New Age Seminary of Psychsoulology” which was established to provide mental, physical, and spiritual healing to the community on a grassroots level. Dr. Brooks has proven that despite all the trials and tribulations the system has dealt him, he has overcome and has never been deterred from his commitment to socio-spiritual liberation for the people.

When a person is convicted of a crime it is the responsibility of those who govern to correct and rehabilitate the offender. They must take these corrective measures in order to preserve the social harmony. However, when said person demonstrates that he/she: 1) understands the crime he/she committed, 2) understand what the root cause was that lead his/her to commit such crime, and 3) take the steps necessary to correct the root cause, he/she then should be eligible to reintegrate back into society. If the aforementioned criteria is displayed by the individual and he/she continues to remain incarcerated, it can be concluded that it is now based on an agenda that lies outside the particular offence. The person is then considered a political prisoner.

The prison industrial complex in the state of California is literally consuming the state alive. Overcrowding, a high recidivism rate, and a correctional officers union (CCPOA) that is more mob racketeers than peace officers, is proof that the “corrections” and “rehabilitation” in CDCR is a farce and a sham. This repressive institution is breeding resistance in the form of liberators such as Dr. Alfred Lawrence Brooks.

Dr. Brooks has far exceeded the abovementioned criteria. He has developed a new strategy for purifying the people’s diseased minds. Dr. Brooks is a man of the people, who values freedom, justice, and morals above fast cars, fancy jewelry and big houses.

The unrelentless spirit exhibited by Dr. Brooks should be an example to all peoples free and unfree alike. He has accomplished more from a prison cell than most people do outside the walls.  He has embarked on a spiritual journey that began with knowledge of self. Even with no family help Dr. Brooks has received aid from many unsuspecting souls who possess the same love for humanity.

This brother is scheduled to face the parole board for the third time on December 2, 2009 at Pleasant Valley State Prison in Coalinga, Ca. With all the aforementioned accomplishments by Dr. Brooks, there should be no reason not to let this true humanitarian have a chance at redemption. For a system that was allegedly established on Judeo-Christian principles anything less than granting Dr. Brooks a parole date would be anti-Christ, even devilish.

Guantanamo Bay and Abu Ghraib, U.S.A.

July 6, 2009 by Kristopher Govea

In recent months we have seen a tremendous amount of pressure on the Obama
administration to hold accountable those who participated in the torture of
terror suspects by U.S. officials. Scandals have ranged from harsh interrogation
techniques in Guantanamo Bay to sexual degradation in Abu Ghraib. These heinous
acts have raised eyebrows on the international stage forcing the U.S. to address
this issue.

The problem with this sudden interest in U.S. interrogation techniques,
imprisonment, and inhumane treatment of detainees in general is that they
have only gained noteriety due to their international ties. What has failed
to be brought to the public’s attention is that these despicable acts are
not isolated to terror suspects, nor were they concocted solely to deal with
international prisoners. The repulsive truth behind the controversy is that
this behavior by prison officials is actually an intrinsic characteristic
within the U.S. criminal justice system domestically. In other words, the
tactics that are causing a public uproar have been practiced for centuries
by U.S. prison officials on U.S. citizens.

A fact that has been overlooked in the whole saga is that the officers
who were employed at Abu Ghraib were former correctional officers in the U.S.
This should cause the nation to question whether or not the same practices
used to humiliate, degrade, and debase terror suspects have or are being used
on U.S. prisoners. Sadly, this question is never asked and therefore remains
unanswered.

Based on my own experiences inside California’s penal institutions, it
is clear that not only is violence, sexual exploitation, and psychological
terror a part of maintaining control over prisoners it is the sine qua non
component of domination and control by the state. Essentially, the state
uses violence and sexual perversion to detain those they deem violent or sexually
deviant. This oxymoronic philosophy should raise questions and doubts about
the credibility of those who govern; yet no protest has been raised.
To myself or any other person who has had the misfortune of experiencing
life behind the walls, such odius behavior displayed at Ab Ghraib Guantanamo
Bay are of no surprise. The deviant personalities who were entrusted with
power and control in those institutions were found here in U.S. institutions.
Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo are mild examples of abuse and brutality compared
to some of the degradation I’ve witnessed these correctional facilities.
If truly exposed I believe the public would be in an uproar at the practices
of the correctional staff.

In these facilities violence and sex work hand-in-hand as the cornerstone
for control. Prisoners are routinely beaten either directly by prison guards
or other prisoners who do the guards bidding. The smallest infraction such
as bringing food out of the dining hall may lead to a beating in a blind spot.
All this remains legal on paperwork because the inmate was provoked by officers.
Medical staff work with the adninistration to ensure that all injuries are
covered up on medical documents, just as they did in Guantanamo.

The favorite tactic used by prison officials to maintain control is sexual
exploitation. This past year 60,000 rapes were reported inside the nations
correctional facilities. Keep in mind these were only the “reported“ cases.
Sex is such an effective weapon because it’s adirect challenge to the man’s
sense of pride and the woman’s purity. Prisoners are routinely stripped searched
in public and in front of recording cameras for what is called “’suspicious
activity”. Even getting a visit or taking a vocational class will require
one to strip naked, bend over, and cough in front of an officer and other
irmates. Prisoners are also forced to shower with one another in a closet
sized shower in front of both male and female officers. If one protests any
of the above practices they are subjected to disciplinary action where one
could be placed in administrative segregation losing phone privileges, recreational
yard, store, etc.

The biggest problem concerning sexual deviancy stems from the sexual perverts
who are employed as prison staff. Correctional officers sexually harrass,
instigate rapes, and even directly participate in sexual misconduct with prisoners.
Many of the images we have seen out of Abu Ghraib originated in U.S. prisons.
I have personally witnessed prisoners handcuffed, stripped naked, and forced
on their knees for hours as guards sexually harrass them. If an inmate is
not particularly liked by prison staff they are endanger of being slandered by staff
(writings such as this is reason for the administration to launch “counterattacks“ for simply exposing the truth. However, I strive for truth against falsehood and the practitioners of falsehood and injustice). Rumors are spread about the inmate amongst the population that could be damaging to them physically or socially.

These incidents are experienced by alot of prisoners, however, just as
in Guantanamo or Abu Ghraib all prisoners experience psychological terror.
The fear that at any given moment one could be attacked haunts all inmates.
The intimidation/bully tactics are a constant occurrence by prison officials
who govern through fear. Safety and security of the institution supercedes
human lives because the only safety and security desired by prison staff is
the safety and security of their paychecks. Prison staff will forego their
own personal well-being to collect more money. Officers provoke inmates to
launch attacks bragging that when they are attacked they’ll receive time off
with pay or their so-called “vacation time” (Note: this extra pay they receive
comes directly fro you, the taxpayer.)

This form of “rehabilitation” will only lead to more cases like Guantanamo
and Abu Ghraib being conducted here in the U.S. The underlying root cause
is not an isolated group of “bad apples” but a prerequisite deviant personality
for all who seek employment at these institutions. Abuse of international
prisoners is only aeresult of prisoner abuse here in the U.S. In departments
of corrections across the nation the motto is : “Do as I say not as I do”
as the sick administer to the sick. The final outcome is a sick and diseased
society we see today.

“The Noble Woman”- By Dr. Alfred L. Brooks

June 12, 2009 by Kristopher Govea

A truly honest and sincere discussion about the role of motherhood within the New Age Family would have to begin with addressing the underlying cause of her stagnated growth and development: oppression via the male chauvinist system. In this blog we will give a two prong analysis of motherhood in our society by 1) identifying female oppression and finding workable solutions towards eradicating it; 2) giving long overdue praise to the mothers who are in the vanguard of leading humanity down a progressive path. By using this methodology we will be fulfilling our objective of finding practical answers to our most pressing problems at this current time.
There is an ancient proverb which states: “When you educate a woman you educate a nation.” this proverb testifies to the fact that women are the very backbone of any prosperous civilization. When women are fully in control of all their faculties they offer humanity the most optimal chance for success and survival. A woman rightly guided with morals and justice will ensure that her offspring are well equipped to handle all that life throws their way. It is a woman who, when properly educated as the proverb says, builds just, righteous, and progressive societies.
Today we are witnessing the antithesis of such a proverb. Not only are woman failing to be educated in morality, they are now being mis-educated in immorality. The prosperity of Western civilization is one that is based o material wealth. This benchmark of success has lead people to selling themselves and their ideals to be accepted by the mainstream. This is a bad predicament for any person of group of persons, especially women who are finding themselves victimized by such a collective train of thought. Males have been allowed to dominate our culture and have infected us with a “win at all cost” ideology that has made them the winners and women the losers. The women in today’s society has been compelled to sell herself to this male dominance. This prostitution goes far beyond standing on a corner and turning tricks. All one has to do it closely examine what television programs, movies, and music is popular to see that the majority is laced with sex, violence, and immorality all with the women portrayed as victim. Many women are living in a mode of survival trying to maintain within this oppressive social order.
Oppression of this nature can be overt as sexual prostitution and as covert as the mother/wife being verbally and mentally abused. Men have had their way with the female gender and have created a society that has produced wars, nuclear bombs, mass starvation, global warming, etc. Males have sought to place themselves high above the throne and relegated the woman to sex object and domestic servants. Even those women who are “successful” still find themselves relatively disadvantaged or working hand in hand with their oppressors.
With our society staring down the crossroads of our future there needs to be a concentrated effort on the part of society as a whole to understand, appreciate, and then help empower all women. We need to honor and revere these mothers who have endured the harsh environment while staying true to their morals and have produced productive members of society. We need to place these mothers in the vanguard of human progress. It is these women, and these women alone, who for too long have carried us on their shoulders.
As for the next generation of women, an intolerance campaign must be undertaken. Being treated as sex slaves, domestic servants, and second-class citizens must not be an option. Women must make it perfectly clear that as long as men continue such odious behavior there will be no women by his side. The daughters on Noble Women must have high standard that she upholds for herself and any man that desires to be in her life; any shortcomings of this standard cannot be tolerated.
For those women who are conforming to the male chauvinist stereotype, there needs to be an understanding that they are worth more than what they’re portraying themselves. Being a video vixen, supermodel, stripper, hooker, etc. is not only selling yourself short but all humanity by depriving us of your tremendous potential and unlimited gifts. All women must aid their lost sisters in coming to a true sense of self and self worth.
When women being to realize the power they posses and exert this power we will see a shift of power from unjust to just. A natural order will be re-instated as women use their motherly instincts in government, education, judiciary, economics, military, etc. These areas of public service all coincide with the role of a mother. She is policy maker (government), educator (since she is the child’s first teacher), judge (disciplinarian), economist (she is the distributor of goods and resources), and military general (since it is her children who will fight the wars). The mother is the backbone of our society and without her being able to break away from male domination, she will not be able to properly educate the next generation of humanity’s leaders.

Grassroots Leadership and The Prop 8 Debate

June 12, 2009 by Kristopher Govea

Just recently the California Supreme Court issued a ruling upholding legislation that continued a ban on gay marriage in California. This is only a latest development in this widely debated and highly controversial political battle. Much time, energy, and resources have been invested in staging rally’s, demonstrations, marches, etc. by both sides. Even with this latest decision this battle will ensue between those who support marriage between same sex couples and those who oppose it.
In this blog I wish not to throw my personal opinion into the debate. Rather, I want to question the allocation of community leadership, especially that of the church. Every week a church somewhere in this state is conducting a huge political demonstration protesting gay marriage. Church pastors perform fiery, emotional sermons denouncing homosexual practice as immoral and a great threat to our wholesome way of life. These same sentiments are shared by thousands of church goers every Sunday which they carry into the week. These opinions and points of views are obviously important to such people as it is their right, as well as it is the right of those in favor of gay marriage. However, my argument at this time is, is this the most pressing issue in our society?
Right now our communities are plagued with poverty, drug abuse, sexual exploitation, police brutality, men and women being incarcerated at a staggering rate, etc. We have serious problems and it is apparent that whether or not same sex couples will or will not be married has really no bearing on our ability to overcome these problems. Where is the leadership protesting, demonstrating, rallying, and marching against these social ills? If someone wishes to marry a person of the same sex and this is permitted or prohibited it will not help the rest of society find resolutions to our many other maladies.
What I’m calling for here is that we shift our focus away from this issue momentarily and address those needs we encounter on a daily basis. This message is directed primarily to the church and other religious organizations since it is their moral obligation to lead the people towards more holistic lives. Church goers need to have a place where practical solutions for practical problems are addressed on a weekly basis. We need to use the pulpit for conveying survival information, not personal political attacks.
The church leadership needs to give instructions on mobilizing the people around their immediate needs. With the country in an economic recession and the lower class sinking further into depression, there remains a real vacuum to be filled with real leadership. How do we avoid the pitfalls of the credit trap? How can we pool our resources in job skills, money, and capital that can be invested in creating more jobs? Where can we find available funds for those with the most extreme circumstances? These are questions that the people need answered right now and yet they continue to be neglected because we’re stuck in long, drawn out battles that may not be relevant to our lives.
Is there any mention of the state budget crisis on Sunday afternoon? Does anyone know or care that education, health care, and social programs are being cut in order to ensure that the states nation leading 34 prisons can function? Why are there nearly 200,000 people in prison and yet there remains an overcrowding and recidivism problem? Why is the state government finding itself subservient to the demands of one union (CCPOA-California Correctional Peace Officers Association) as it defrauds the tax payers of hundreds of millions of dollars? These are issues the public must privy to in order to wage appropriate struggle against the crooks and criminals that are responsible for their dire living conditions.
I understand that staunch critics of Prop. 8 will argue that this legislation involves us all because it introduces homosexuality into our educational system and that is a valid argument. However, there are numerous flaws and lies within our system right now that deserve the same attention and have for years. Lies about racism, sexism, and classism are told as it relates to the conception of this nation. Lies are even taught in these very religious institutions that depict Jesus as a white man who in turn portrays “god”. all of these abuses of power have lead and are leading to oppression through racist and sexist propaganda. And there remains no public outcry on Sunday mornings.
There needs to be a public demonstration against these religious leaders who are not meeting their spiritual obligation by helping the people help themselves. Massive protests need to be undertaken denouncing corporate and government corruption, warmongering, police brutality, and sexual exploitation on the black market as well as mainstream media with the same fervor it denounces gay marriage. The voice at the pulpit needs to be the voice of the people and the people should be demanding solutions to their current problems.
Once again, I am in no way advocating for or against same sex marriage. All I’m trying to say is that the same time and energy our community leaders put into fighting against homosexual couples marrying, they should be fighting against poverty, racism, sexism, militarization, and oppression in general. We need to understand that leaders are appointed based on their ability to meet the needs of the people and right now our need is for true, genuine leadership.

“New Age Family Prudent Man”- By Dr. Alfred L. Brooks

June 6, 2009 by Kristopher Govea

Continuing in our series of the New Age Family, I will attempt to discuss the roles played by each individual member. This blog will focus on the father, in particular, the attributes or characteristics needed to fulfill his obligations to himself, his family, society, and God.
Let us first begin by reiterating what the mission of the father is within the family unit. Lie any effective system of organizing and governing a body people, there must exist a branch for administering and a branch for defending. On a large, systematic level, this is translated into the government and military. Both serve the needs of the people and are necessary in order for a civilization to sustain itself. The family is a microcosm of such a system. The father’s primary job is to protect and provide for his family. Protection from external threats ensures the family’s security in its growth and development. Providing the means of subsistence I.e. food, shelter, clothes, etc, allows for adequate personal and collective sustainability. Integrate this into the role of socio-spiritual educator and we have a family geared towards long-term survival.
At this time we will examine five attributes that are essential building blocks of the New Age Family Prudent Man. They are as follows: 1) Patience/ Perseverance 2) Integrity 3) Morality 4) Charity 5) Self-Discipline.
Patience/ Perseverance–Either one of these two words are an accurate description. In today’s society, raising a family is one of the most strenuous tasks to undertake. This is evident by the number of single-parent families who are left with no male influence. Poverty, substance abuse, infidelity, and the temptation of “the cares of this world” are just some of the reasons why families are finding it difficult to endure life’s hardships. However, the New Age Prudent Man sees struggle as a prerequisite for progress. He knows that in times of difficulty family bonds are strengthened and growth and development is the reward. He preserves and stays the course our of genuine love of his family and sees them prosper and flourish.
Integrity- This is much more important for any person to have but for the father he must be sincere in his actions and practice what he preaches. Any good leader knows that in order to obtain this respect it means upholding the very discipline he is instilling in them. The father’s job is much more difficult because he lives with his followers and is therefore under severe scrutiny. Any sign of hypocrisy or insincerity is a step towards losing the respect of his family. The New Age Prudent Man not only upholds the moral and discipline he preaches, he does so with complete sincerity and devotion to his family.
Morality- This is devout worship to God, The Creator, All That Is Good and Pure, The Author of Universal Principles and Truth, The Uncaused Cause of All; in human terms: Morality. The New Age Family Prudent Man leans not on his own understanding but seeks guidance in his strong belief in morals and piety. He is submissive to these codes of conduct and does not deviate under any circumstance. He fears not only God but a life that is void of God and Universal Morality. He demands that morals be upheld yet teaches them with the same loving kindness God teaches him. If he is subservient to anyone it is the Universal Creator and the straight and narrow path placed before him.
Charity- This word alone does not do the New Age Family Prudent Man justice. He gives not only of his resources but of himself. He is a pillar of society whose presence within the community is that of a leader. He stands for truth, justice, and righteousness and does not tolerate the denial of these rights to any persons. He is a servant of not only his family but society by teaching, mentoring, and guiding the youth towards moral practices. He believes that it takes a village to raise a child and expresses this through his example of being a father to all. What differentiates the New Age Family Prudent Man from other men is that while they speak of the negative influences in the community, the New Age Family Prudent Man develops methods to eradicate them completely. He is a man of few words and immediate action.
Self-Discipline- Without this attribute the other four are of no significance. When I was a child my beloved father would tell me that “A man’s work in never done.” He demonstrated his belief every morning as he was the first to rise before dawn, dressed, and ready to undertake the job that would never be finished. Discipline drives the New Age Family Prudent Man to fulfill his obligations and find more ways to improve the lives of his family and community. Discipline keeps him focused on the agenda and does not allow for immoral deviations. Lethargy is contradictory has no place for a man entrusted with raising tomorrows pillars of society. His work ethic is inspired by his desire to see his seeds grow into a strong Redwoods and beautiful roses. Discipline waked him up in the morning, laces his boots, and drives him to work. Discipline passes on the bars, nightclubs, and loose women for countless hours of teaching, loving, and enjoying his family. Discipline bows his head throughout the day in humble submission to his Creator in order to generate the energy necessary to keep striving.
The above are only a few attribute and characteristics of the New Age Family Prudent Man but they are most essential. The most important thing any man who raises a family should understand that learning is a constant occurrence and once one feels he has mastered all five of these qualities he begins to atrophy and lose his family. Being a New Age Family Prudent Man is a lifetime commitment and therefore a life long learning process.

One World ‘Body’

June 6, 2009 by Kristopher Govea

Arriving at a clear and distinct definition of the human being in our entirety has been at best for time immemorial. How and why we function and for what purpose has, and continues to perplex even the most well learned individuals. Whether through mundane science or religious theology there has yet to be developed a universally agreed upon definition of what exactly is the human species.
So often the various different branches of science separate the many facilities of the human being into their own individual entities. Medical science has been relegated to the physiological, or tangible, aspect known as the body. Psychology has been given the position of analyzing the mind and the inner workings of such. The almost impossible task of defining, let alone understanding the functioning of the soul has been a job for the religious community.
This “division of labor” may be the sole reason why our understanding of ourselves and our environment has been insufficient. The very fact that we speak in terms of “mind, body, and soul” as if each one is an individual organism in itself, prohibits us from realizing our complete God-given potential. Our power base lies in us being whole beings and., therefore, our growth and development is predicated on us understanding ourselves in this way.
This train of thought has, and is, dominating our entire culture. Just as the human being itself has been divided, categorized, and allocated to specific “specialists” for further examination so has the collective body of humanity been di-“sect”-ed into ethnicities, nationalities, class and castes, religions, etc. We have lost the ability to see our fellow brothers and sisters as being just that. Instead we see our “black” brother or “Christina” brother or “Cuban” sister. The human world body had gone the way of the human individual body; a different name and category for each, thus, further dividing and separating us from our nature.
Like any other problem, the answer to such a dilemma, lies within the problem. The problem solver, in this case, is none other than ourselves. Before we unite the world under the banner of one humanity and one world we must first reconcile and consolidate our “mind, body and soul” into its proper place. To continue taking such an “un-holistic” approach in our search for answers will only leave us further isolated and unfulfilled.
Our human bodies are a microcosm of the human world body. The mind, body and soul, having certain particular functions, all operate as one. On the physical plane our various physiological systems complement and support each other. The heart is rendered useless and ineffective without even the most miniscule vein to transport the blood to its destination. This same concept is true for the mind which uses its intellect, reason, and analization skills to see that the body is partaking in that which is beneficial to its long-term survival. The mind and body become a strong and limitless force of human potential when operating with the moral guidance or “vision” of the soul. Our soul is the light which illuminates the straight and narrow path set before us. It is our direct line of communication with Universal Truths and Principles that allow for our establishing sound morals and ethical codes of conduct. These three entities which have been taken out of their proper context are really one united being, which seeks truth, justice, and righteousness.
The world body is much the same. Despite our many differences in geographical locations, skin pigmentation, religious beliefs, and economic status we are really one and the same. We each offer strengths and weaknesses in varying degrees yet we work efficiently when synchronized and united. The unlocked door to our tremendous human potential can be opened by settling our quarrels, coming together, and understanding ourselves as one humanity.

“The ‘Why’ In Morality”

May 10, 2009 by Kristopher Govea

The perplexing question that humanity has wrestled with for time immemorial is “why?”. The reason it is so troubling is because the certainty of the answer to such a query is dubious. To pose the question of “what”, “how”, or “when” is to derive an answer that is somewhat concrete, however, the opposite is true of “why”.
The very fact that this question is so difficult to answer makes it all the more vital towards obtaining full understanding of a given concept or situation. True education makes every attempt possible to answer this question in the most optimal manner. Without addressing this question one is simply reduced to regurgitating facts and information minus the substance in which it originated.
Morality is a subject that should never be immune from such analytical thought. Even more s, morality, and the reason thereof, should be scrutinized and examined. This should be true when one is instructing and giving guidance to young minds, as well as in the study of religious matters. “Why” should always be the fundamental foundation for which one builds a strong set of moral ethical codes of conduct. Nothing concerning morality should be exempt from such questioning as it is this line of thinking that gives credibility to such principles.
As children we may have been told by our parents that the answer to “why” is “because I said so”. This is not sound judgment because it can short-circuit a child’s logic or reasoning. In fact, a parent should never have to wait for a child to ask “why” but instead incorporate the answer into the teachings. This kind of inculcation takes time and patience but is necessary in order to persuade, as opposed to coerce, a child to take a moral high road.
Morality is essential to human survival and, ipso facto, needed in human society. Since its inception religious institutions have been the vehicle in which morality is conveyed to the general population. These institutions were used to set the ideal standards as to how humans were to interact with each other and their environment. The problem with such religious ideologies today is the dogmatic approach in which they are applied.
Religious dogmas implement morality in two distinct ways:
1) The fear factor- this approach issues an ultimatum to the people concerning these moral ethical codes of conduct. For those that comply, there is a reward, usually in the form of a paradise promised in the hereafter. For those dissidents who rebel against morality there awaits eternal damnation in hell fire. The most convincing of the two is the latter because the traumatizing experience of pain and suffering can wreak havoc on the human psyche. This method utilizes humans two worst possible fears: the fear of death and the fear of pain.
2)The omnipotence factor-this method is designed to give a plateau to aim for. It is also entrenched with the belief that morality is divinely inspired by a deity or “god” like figure. This sets the bar at the level of perfection, and since perfection is only relative to a given situation, humans find this an improbable feat.
The fear factor is a problem because it does not allow for a sincere attempt at being moral to develop. Morality is only ascribed to as a result of the fear of unknown pain and suffering. It also leaves room for one to resist as a matter of unbelief. If one chooses not to believe in post mordum consequences, or is indifferent to such ideas, there then becomes a justification for immoral practices. Whenever fear is the motivating factor, genuine intentions become compromised.
The omnipotence factor is still yet dangerous for establishing morality. Omnipotence is an unreachable goal and when one realizes this truth one is susceptible to low self-esteem and/or confidence. If a person believes that he/she cannot possibly be moral in the light of true perfection there is then no reason to continue striving to establish good. This factor is also equivalent to the “because I said so” response discussed earlier. If “god” said so it must not be questioned and therefore we can never develop ourselves into willfully moral people.
Teaching requires taking the time to explain the purpose of the lessons or instructions. People must be shows how adhering to moral principles is beneficial to themselves and humanity in general. Without this explanation we are in danger of fostering a sense of doubt concerning the validity of morality. Doubt arises when the people suspect that rules and regulations are prescribed for oppressive or self-seeking purposes. Once this train of thinking develops inside an impressionable mind then all credibility becomes obsolete.
There are reasons for everything and the same is true for morality. Religious books are littered with “Thou shalt not’s” and “The Lord commanded” and other such demands. However, if e are to really benefit from these principles we must understand two things: 1) the historical context in which it was written and 2) how this law aids humanity survive since survival is the number one priority of all living species. Once we establish this we can then understand how these laws and morals serve our holistic interests.
Upon reading the religious doctrines found inside the Torah, Bible and Al-Qur’an we see that there are many commands which seem outdated. Obviously the historical setting is much different since we do not live in the desert and instead live in a world that has transcended many of the experiences of that era. There are also many instructions that were given to a specific people regarding specific circumstances. This allows us the unique ability to view an historical setting objectively in retrospect and utilize those elements beneficial to ourselves and our surroundings.
Some commandments are still applicable today and must be used. “Thou shalt not kill”. “Thou shalt not bear false witness”, and “Thou shalt not steal” are examples of survival necessary morals. These laws establish justice as they solidify a persons integrity. Without justice a society cannot stand because those who are on the outside of this justice will resist and rebel thereby endangering the existence of a society. Our goal is to survive and preserve the species and in order to do this all humanity must feel it a benefit to themselves and their society.
In today’s society we face many issues not discussed in religious books. However, the same concept applies. If drug use is ones dilemma is must be understood that it is beyond just being “wrong”. It must be described how drugs impact the body and society. People must be convinced that refraining from drug use or any other damaging agent is not conductive to their individual and collective survival.
Teaching requires time, patience, and dedication. Taking short cuts will only allow for the proliferation of unprogressive ideologies. We must understand why morality is important if we are to reap the benefits thereof. Understanding, absorbing, and internalizing is the only way something becomes second nature which is exactly the reason for asking “why”.

“Optimistic and Pessimistic Personalities” -By Dr. Alfred L. Brooks

May 5, 2009 by Kristopher Govea

Exactly how people interact with other people and the world is based on their perception thereof. A person’s perception is predicated on past experiences as our respective personalities are a sum total of all these experiences. A person who has experienced many hardships at the hands of other people can Become mistrusting of all people and their intentions. A person who has obtained success with apparent ease may feel that he/she is entitled to certain privileges regardless of what the circumstances may indicate. These examples of persons may find themselves in an exact same situation yet view it from different perspectives relating to their past experiences. With this logic it can be determined that a person will approach the world according to their respective perception of it
Optimism and pessimism are, by nature, polar opposites. The former sees the light at the end of the tunnel and will reach this destination in the most optimal fashion. The latter, however, sees only the tunnel and concludes that the risk is not worth the reward, therefore, foregoing the entire process. Although a pessimistic personality is presumptively a result of bad experiences, the potential for undoing such pessimism is still present. One must learn to acknowledge that, although stemming from a root cause, recent failures are a result of one’s own pessimism.
Successful people in any arena are antecedently optimistic. Visionary leaders and entrepreneurs display this optimism by constructing a sense of purpose not only for their own lives, but those surrounding them as well A Creativity and the willingness to find new paths towards success can only be a result of the perceived optimistic outcome. Many of the revered and respected leaders such as Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad could not have blessed humanity with their respective visions had they not perceived and
or conceived of achieving the success they eventually had.
Pessimistic personalities short circuit their own success at its onset. Pessimists approach work and pleasure with the view that all will be for not. A pessimistic personality sees the bad in every situation and every person and consequently develops a megalomaniac and narcissistic point of view. Pessimists always plays the role of victim in order to intellectualize their own shortcomings and/ or mistreatment of others. Pessimism is antagonistic to success because success is not an option for such people.
The psychological science behind this- theory is that one‘s own effort is result of one’s own perception. The optimistic athlete knows that he/she is able to perform at a winning level and, therefore, approaches his/her sport with maximum effort. The pessimistic athlete is unsure of his/her ability and, therefore, accepts defeat beforehand, thereby minimizing his/her own effort. It can be concluded that success and failure in any endeavor is determined by effort put forth and the effort put forth is determined by how one perceives him/herself and the probability of success.
This understanding is essential for undoing the pessimistic outlook these people have. It must be recognized that a majority of these failures are not a result of one’s own inabilities but a lack of effort. Pessimism prohibits maximum effort. lf the pessimist can only acknowledge that success is obtainable through diligence and perseverance, then the amount of effort one puts forth will reflect just that.
Regardless of past experiences, pessimism can be overcome by taking responsibility for one’s own actions or inactions. This means that in any endeavor one can only be responsible for their respective actions. lf failure is the outcome one must analyze themselves minus external factors. lf one failed to give their best effort, then the failure can be attributed to this. lf one gave maximum effort then success is pending improvement in identified areas. Either way, one must stop blaming others and make the effort to improve areas within one’s control.
Optimists are successful because even failure brings with it lessons that will aid in future successes. Optimists are confident because they and no one else control their own destiny. To live a more holistic life take the steps necessary to obtain an optimistic perception despite what your past may have dealt you.

For an extensive dissertation on optimistic and pessimistic personalities, see “New Age Principles of Holistic Health” chapter six by Rev. Dr. Alfred Lawrence Brooks.

“Each One, Teach One”

May 5, 2009 by Kristopher Govea

“Each one, teach one: is a widely accepted ideology that has circulated amongst the prison population or several decades. Upon my own incarceration I too have become rather familiar with this philosophy as it was taught to me by those older than I. However, not unlike many other prisoners of my generation, I failed to fully grasp the concept in it’s entirety. It was not until I witnessed this ideology neglected from practice that I then understood not only the importance but the real intention of education and purpose behind it.
This concept is founded upon the importance of education and unity as fundamental principles for survival. Education is the determining factor between success and failure. It is essential to point out that proper education such as moral training, knowledge of self and kind, and understanding the world in general, can lead to the development of individuals properly equipped to lead humanity. This importance of education is demonstrated in our daily lives via decisions we must make. A sound education I.e. knowledge of ourselves and surroundings, will lead to sound life decisions.
Unity is another prerequisite for human survival. Cooperation in human society gave rise to progress in physical, mental, and spiritual matters. It gave within each member of society a responsibility to the collective to maintain and adhere to moral ethical codes of conduct. Unity means that we live and die as one, and that we are only as strong as our weakest link. With a cohesive society leaning upon each other, we are able to reach new heights in all areas of human activity.
Throughout the course of time human progress has been preceded by the emergence of effective leaders. History books are filled with leaders who understood themselves and their constituents well enough to know how to utilize all assets effectively. Leaders unite people from all walks of life by using sound education to ensure survival and progress for society.
The “Each on, teach one” creed is, at its heart, quintessential leadership. It instills within us that with education comes a moral obligation to pass our knowledge on to our fellow human beings. By adopting this ideology in principle and adhering to it in practice we give reverence to our teachers by securing their legacy in the teaching process. This philosophy preserves the human race from intellectual and moral decay because as long as one possesses knowledge and practices this concept, hope remains for us all.
It is obvious from examining today’s society that this ideology has failed to be applied. Would-be educators have shirked their responsibility to educate others and see that this legacy continue,. We are engaged in a social “survival of the fittest” as those who know, compete against each other for economic and social status. A preoccupation with non-sensual matter such as entertainment, sports, money, etc. have superseded morality and ethics. Moral and ethical decay is beginning to raise havoc on ourselves, our families, and consequently, the world.
In the midst of a global economic crisis, we are confronted with a serious moral dilemma. A new generation of people will entrust their lives to a previous generation who, up to this point, have yet to prove itself capable of instructing and guiding. We must fulfill our moral obligation to learn and teach. The ideology of “Each one, teach one” must be re-instated in our lives as we construct a new generation of leaders who will ensure mental, physical, and spiritual progress for all humanity.
